About the event
This exciting event started with a sad demise: The Salem Oak Tree in Salem NJ was over 500 years old and grew in the Salem Religious Society of Friends burial ground. It is also believed to be the site Quaker John Fenwick brokered a treaty with the Lenni Lenape Native American Tribe. John Fenwick brought the English to West New Jersey in 1675.
Three months prior to the tree falling in 2019, some people gathered acorns and started growing saplings. The saplings were disrupted to various townships throughout New Jersey. The fabulous Michael DiCiancia of the JC Forestry Department called and asked if we would like to plant one of the saplings in Speer Cemetery. Of course I said "YES"!
The planting of this very important piece of New Jersey, and American, history will take place at Speer Cemetery on Friday April 25th, Arbor Day and you are all invited!
